Incredible victory speech…watch it. |
Onto the actual books I’ve been reading…
I posted some very quick thoughts on 5 of my most recent reads here. (The Ruins of Lace, The Middlesteins, This is How You Lose Her, The Art Forger & Illuminations)
I just finished the very lovely The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe for the Book Club at Devourer of Books.
Currently Reading:
Upcoming Reads:I’m still holding off from requesting library books. You guys don’t know how difficult that is! You don’t even know! Two books that I requested ages ago have come in though: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Mrs. Robinson’s Disgrace by Kate Summerscale. I’m very much looking forward to reading both of those.
I still have some books around the house that I need to get to soon. Some I’ve won, some are for review. They include: The Love Song for Jonny Valentine by Teddy Wayne, Fresh Off the Boat by Eddie Huang and With or Without You by Domenica Ruta. Great stuff coming up! Yay me!
How was your week of reading? Did you read something amazing?
I stayed up until the President's speech on Wednesday morning just to make sure that Romney didn't pull a Bush and try to make a lawsuit out of Ohio. LOL. By that point Don had gone to bed but I was damned if I was going to wake up on Wednesday to find out that the President wasn't the President. My It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is going to be up early tomorrow morning.

I stayed up too! I still have nightmares from 2000. I'll never forget being at the grocery store the next day. People were just milling around, picking out their fruits and veggies. I wanted to holler, DO YOU KNOW WE DON'T HAVE A PRESIDENT??? I was traumatized..and as I'm sure you remember, it only got worse.

I was actually a bit surprised how quick the results were in. My DH rants that the folks on the west coast don't even get their votes in before the results are announced. It was a great media process of information.I like the looks of Mrs. Robinson's Disgrace. Hope you have another Happy Week!

I don't think I could manage not requesting at the library. Since I've stopped buying like I did once upon a time, library requests fill that obsessive/hoarder/book lust feeling. Plus I work there, so I have temptation in my face. I still need to read The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe. Glad to hear it is a lovely read.

I stayed up manically refreshing cbs.com to see the updated results. I only caught the last 5 or so minutes of the speech but I'll get around to watching the rest.Mrs. Robinson's Disgrace looks super interesting. I might have to pick it up. 🙂

Well done for sticking with the library ban! Sounds a good week for you. I'm glad the acceptance speech (and Romney's concession) were posted online, gives us non-US people a better glimpse of it all.

I haven't requested books from the library in ages….it seems that getting my own books under control has taken priority. Now if I could stop buying…or receiving review books, I could return to the library! I think you're going to love Gone Girl, though.Sounds like a great week for you; I felt energized from mine, too. Here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST

It looks great!!!I have Gone Girl on my Nook and need to get off my butt and read it already. It was for my f2f book club, but I didn't get it finished up in time.

I saw your post today about Gone Girl (and totally didn't read it because I'm scared of spoilers) and thought about how I should zoom to the library to pick up my copy. I'll finish up Tides of War and get to Gone Girl and hopefully I'll have something to add to your discussion 🙂

I agree on the library holds breaks. It's really tempting to request everything. I've been limiting myself to titles I know will have a really long line. I'm first in line for the last Sookie Stackhouse book! And I'm so glad the election wound up the way it did. People were straight up celebrating the next day at work. I live in a total blue state.
