Monthly Wrap-Up: December 2014

This was the best month of the year! Just as I was despairing that the whole of 2014 year was (nearly) a bust*, along came December to save the day (year?).

Redemption! Huzzah!

In fact, if I could go back and rewrite my favorites of the year post I’d have to change it up and add some of the glorious books that I read at the tail end of the year. How about that?

Here’s what I read:

Graphic Novels/Comics:

Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson

How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You by The Oatmeal

A Very Klingon Khristmas by Paul Ruditis

Saga Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan**

Fiction:

A Distant Father by Antonio Skarmeta

North of Boston by Elisabeth Elo

The Magician’s Lie by Greer Macallister

Dirty Chick by Antonia Murphy

Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum**

The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant

The Room by Jonas Karlsson

Lost & Found by Brooke Davis**

The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion

Nonfiction:

The Art of the English Murder by Lucy Worsley

Lives in Ruins by Marilyn Johnson

*This is not to say that I didn’t read some wonderful books in 2014, only that I didn’t have many of those OMG EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS type of moments.

**These books could easily be added to my list of favorites.

How was your December?

  1. I've got Dirty Chick on the schedule for January and I'd like to read Hausfrau too. I just posted my review of The Boston Girl, but it was kind of blah for me. Glad you had such a great end of the year with your reading!

  2. A Very Klingon Christmas just cracks me up! I have to remember that book for next year. You had an awesome month of reading. I have Dirty Chick too, so very curious to see if it's a good book.

  3. Yay – you totally rocked the reading thing in December – so awesome!!! My December was spent blogging and catching up mostly, and it was great to do so, since I've missed blogging regularly.Tanya PatriceGirlxoxo.com

  4. Happy 2015! How was The Rosie Effect? Not hearing great things about it but I loved the first one so I'm sure I'll read it.

  5. You did have a great December! The only book I've read from your list is The Rosie Effect, which I'm very curious for your thoughts on since I wasn't overly impressed (Rosie drove me nuts! I still love Don though). I do have North of Boston on pre-order, so I really hope you liked that one!

  6. Hooray for a great December! My reading seems to plod along at a pretty steady pace, but my reviewing has taken a serious nosedive and I haven't recovered yet.I'm so happy to see that you loved Lost and Found. I have it coming up and I am excited!

  8. My December was meh and January is not going too much better. Maybe it's me. Anyway, I just got news that a copy of Hausfrau is on its way to me which is because I begged for it after you seemed to like it so much. So, I have that to look forward to!
