Relentless Weekly – June 18, 2020

Normally I’d have this post up on a Friday but, as we’ve discussed, time has no meaning. Is this Saturday? Wednesday? Blurbsday? Who cares!

Here’s what I’ve been up to this week –

Watching: We’ve (me and my husband) been watching Dead to Me on Netflix. Who doesn’t love a dark comedy? Christina Applegate is a riot in this, check it out.

Listening: I’m listening to the audio version of An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar – Ortiz. What a truth punch in the face this book is. It’s making me think of my own family history of Indian Boarding Schools. It’s pissing me off and breaking my heart.

My ears are also in love with David Tennant’s podcast. I didn’t know it existed until recently, which is criminal. What a joy to hear his voice. #GiantCrushAlert

Cooking: The steamy humidity is ruining my cooking game. It’s too stinking HOT. I did brave the oven on Monday to make a birthday cake for Patrick Stewart’s 80th birthday. (I’m waving my nerd flag all over the place in this post eh?) You can see it on Twitter if you’d like! (It’s not pretty, but it was tasty. Now my husband is randomly searching for other celebrity birthdays in an effort to get me to bake again!)

Reading: I’m still slowly and mindfully reading Stamped From the Beginning. I’ve also starting dipping back into the world of NetGalley. They have audiobooks now! Isn’t that exciting? It certainly excites me as it’s the easiest way to read since my accident last year. (I’m not really allowed to talk about that, but it’s a thing.) Now, let’s hope I don’t get carried away by requesting 100 books at a time.

I hope you’re all reading wonderful things, cooking delicious meals, and treating yourselves with care. The world is hard. It does need us to be vigilant, aware, and smart, but don’t forget to breathe once in a while.

Relentless Weekly – June 10, 2020

It’s Friday, which means next to nothing to me during this weird time. It does mean that my husband will be home for the next couple of days, and that’s always rad. I kinda like that guy.

Here’s what I’ve been up to this week –

Watching: The Office! This one will take me a long while to get through as I’m watching and listening to the Office Ladies podcast at the same time. My husband and I have started the new Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix as well. Oh my word, the theme music drops me right back in time.

Cooking: We’re relying heavily on the Instant Pot because the summer heat shows no sign of going away. Whew! I made an Instant Pot Rotisserie Chicken earlier this week that was fantastic. If you have any fun recipes to send my way I’d love to hear about them.

Reading: I’m currently reading both The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, and Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi. Stamped is going to take me a while, I can feel it. I want to be deliberate in my reading to learn (unlearn?) as much as I possibly can. It’s been great to see how many other readers are picking up this book, let’s be sure to put that new knowledge into practice.

Hoping: There are some possible exciting things in the works for me and mine. Maybe I’m superstitious, but I won’t be talking about specifics until it becomes a reality. However, I would like to ask you to throw a good thought in my direction if you are so inclined!

I hope your weekend brings you good times and great books. Cheers!
