The Relentless Weekly – Aug. 28, 2020

It’s time for another weekly round-up here on the blog. Ready? Let’s go!

Celebrating: Today is my paternal grandma’s 85th birthday! Happy birthday, Granny! She means the world to me, and has always been in my corner.

Reading: I’m listening to The Truths We Hold by Kamala Harris. It’s a well written political memoir (no deep dark secrets or gossip), and it reminds me of how inspiring she is. Recommended!

Cooking: I’ll be honest. We’re cooking anything that’s easy or that can be slapped on the grill. It’s hot, we’re busy, and I can’t be bothered lately. I’m very much looking forward to fall arriving. I need lower temps that are conducive to making soups, stews, and other hearty fare.

Posting: This week I shared a Get to Know Me Monday post about my quirky hands, and a passionate review of a beloved book of poetry by my youngest daughter. Check them out!

Sharing: I’m terrified of the dentist. I’m not talking about a little case of nerves. I’m talking shaking, crying, and sweating type of fear. The only way it could be worse is if the procedures took place at a great height, or if the dentist was a real live spider. BUT! I have discovered the glory of sedation dentistry! I spent 4 hours in a dental chair on Wednesday, but I was asleep! I had numerous procedures done in an afternoon, equivalent to about 10 separate appointments. I was sore and exhausted afterwards, but I’d never have gotten through it otherwise. This is a great option if you suffer from dental anxiety. #TheMoreYouKnow

Asking: Please read this thread from ACLU on Twitter asking for the immediate resignation of Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskinis and Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth. This thread includes phone numbers to call and an citizen complaint form that can be filled out.

Have a good weekend and a good week, everyone. Keep fighting the good fight.

The Relentless Weekly – Aug. 22, 2020

Good day and happy Saturday! Let’s dive right into this week, shall we?

Listening: My current audiobook is My Dear Hamilton: A Novel of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. I’m enjoying the historical aspects, but the romantic bits are a bit too “heaving bosoms” for my liking. I’m not too far into the book though, so I reserve the right to change my mind at any moment!

Reading: It’s been a bang-up week of books! I listened to Sense & Sensibility (swoon!), and I gobbled up The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett.

I’m currently reading Stringing Rosaries: The History, the Unforgivable, and the Healing of Northern Plains American Indian Boarding School Survivors by Denise K. Lajimodiere. I strongly recommend it. Strongly. Most of us have large gaps in our knowledge of indigenous history. This book will help remedy that.

Celebrating: Mike (the husband) turned 49 this week! He was a lad of 22 when I met him. I’m not sure how he’s this close to being 50? What magic time stream did we enter in which all the days were long, but all of the years were so damn short? It’s a mystery!

Watching: Glow Up on Netflix! It’s a British makeup competition show that’s captured my fancy. Good clean fun, you know?

Asking: Please text USPS to 50409 and they’ll contact your state representatives on your behalf with a letter urging them to save the the United States Postal Service. It’s so simple! Also, you can request a free “We Love Mail Carriers” here. I also ordered this sticker from Redbubble. I’m going to stick it on my mailbox to show my local mail carriers some love.

That’s all I’ve got, gang. I do hope you’ve had a good week. I would really love to hear about it!
