Blogging: 
There’s been nary a word here on The Relentless Reader but I’ve been a busy little bee over on The Socratic Salon. Thanks to everyone who shared our links, commented on our posts, or supported us in any way. Being able to talk freely without worrying about spoilers has been freeing! People are hungry to dig deep into books. It’s been surprising, awesome, and gratifying. I hope you’ll check out our about page to see the who, the what, and the why.

Reading:
I finished Mosquitoland and read We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. It’s based on a TED talk Adiche gave. (You should totally watch it!)  I’m currently reading Kate Mulgrew’s memoir Born With Teeth. 

Watching:
I’ve decided to get back into Gilmore Girls. I don’t know what I think about it. It’s a charming show but the forced-sounding banter thing some of the actors do gets on my nerves. Maybe I’ll get used to it. Maybe they’ll find their rhythm and it won’t sound so clunky to my ears? (I’m still in season 1) The show is a cultural touchstone that I missed out on the first time around and I’m determined to stick with it.

Eating:
Most of our meals this week consisted of leftover Wonder Woman cake. I’m not complaining.

Bragging:
It’s been a great week for my kids. Avery (15) was able to start The Acceptance Project at her school. There were hoops to jump through and school board members to convince and she never gave up and I’m wildly proud. A board member said that there’s “something in our handbook about tolerance already” and then asked “why do they need a club like this?” 

Because people like you continue to ask questions like that. That’s why. 

They had their first meeting this week and let’s just say we didn’t bring enough donuts to feed all of the kids that showed up. More proof that clubs like this are necessary. 

In more shallow news, my son Carter (16) was chosen by a local photographer to be a senior rep/model for the upcoming year. (He’ll feature in her senior portrait advertising, etc.) We keep teasing him about his modeling gig and how one day soon we’ll see him on a billboard in Times Square. He hates us a little, ha.
