Quick Thoughts on Me Before You, The Confidant & Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

I let the hype about this book get to me and I had to read it. I didn’t fall madly in love with it but I enjoyed it a lot. (This is why I normally stay away from buzz books until I feel that my expectations are reasonable. I think I would have liked this even more a year from now.) It’s a solid read that I completely recommend. I wept and I laughed. What more can a reader ask for?

Deception! Secrets! Frenchiness! If you’re a fan of historical fiction you should put this book on your list. The lack of communication between the characters irked me at certain points. On the other hand, communication during war time is sketchy at best. The twists and turns were exciting. I gobbled this book up in one day.

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain
I nearly put this one aside after reading the first chapter. The slangy young dude language was driving me to drink. I’m thankful that I kept reading! This turned out to be a book that I won’t soon forget. It made me revisit some of the feelings I had at the beginning of the war in Iraq. It made me uncomfortable and angry, but in a good way. A fantastic book.

Currently Reading:

I’m not sure if I’m going to end up liking this one or not. So far the story is good but the slangy language is getting on my nerves.

Upcoming:

I might give Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan a whirl. I’m apprehensive about this one. I’ve seen a few iffy reviews from bloggers that I trust.

I received an email from my library informing me that Marbles by Ellen Forney is waiting for me. I requested this book after seeing this review on 1330v.
Of course I have stacks of other books to get to. And I will get to them. Eventually. I’ve yet to read anything from my 2013 TBR Pile Challenge in March and I really should get on that.
