Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld ~ A Review in GIFS

Publisher: Random House
Publication Date: June 2013
Categories: Contemporary Women, Literary
Source: Random House
Description:
From an early age, Kate and her identical twin sister, Violet, knew that they were unlike everyone else. Kate and Vi were born with peculiar “senses”—innate psychic abilities concerning future events and other people’s secrets. Though Vi embraced her visions, Kate did her best to hide them.

Now, years later, their different paths have led them both back to their hometown of St. Louis. Vi has pursued an eccentric career as a psychic medium, while Kate, a devoted wife and mother, has settled down in the suburbs to raise her two young children. But when a minor earthquake hits in the middle of the night, the normal life Kate has always wished for begins to shift. After Vi goes on television to share a premonition that a devastating earthquake will soon hit the St. Louis area, Kate is mortified. More troubling, however, is her fear that Vi may be right. As the date of the predicted earthquake quickly approaches, Kate is forced to reconcile her fraught relationship with her sister, and truths about herself she’s long tried to deny.

Hooray for sisters! (Even if one of them is kind of a jerkface)*
That’s the plot talking. It’s a bit complex, needlessly so in some areas.
Matt Lauer makes an appearance! (Sadly, he doesn’t dance)

Bill Murray does not make an appearance. But psychic abilities do, so there.
Well played, Sisterland. Well played indeed.
*My real life sister is not a jerkface.

This year is the first that I’ve kept track of how many books I’ve read. I decided to set a Goodreads goal of 125 books. Soon after I increased my goal to 150 books. I’ve recently increased my goal again, to 200 books. I knew that I was a fast reader. I knew I read a lot. I didn’t realize just how fast and how much!

2013 Reading Challenge
You have read 87 books toward your goal of 200 books.

Great work, you’re 19 books (9%) ahead of schedule.

Have another great week everyone!
