About the Authors

Why did Norman Mailer stab his second wife at a party?  Who was Edith Wharton’s secret transatlantic lover? What motivated Anaïs Nin to become a bigamist?

Writers Between the Covers rips the sheets off these and other real-life love stories of the literati—some with fairy tale endings and others that resulted in break-ups, breakdowns, and brawls. Among the writers laid bare are Agatha Christie, who sparked the largest-ever manhunt in England as her marriage fell apart; Arthur Miller, whose jaw-dropping pairing with Marilyn Monroe proved that opposites attract, at least initially; and T.S. Eliot, who slept in a deckchair on his disastrous honeymoon.

From the best break-up letters to the stormiest love triangles to the boldest cougars and cradle-robbers, this fun and accessible volume—packed with lists, quizzes and in-depth exposés—reveals literary history’s most titillating loves, lusts, and longings.

My Giffy Thoughts:

The Relentless Weekly Wrap-Up 10/14/13

Hooking up with “It’s Monday! What are you Reading?” over at Book Journey

Reviews:

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes

The Clock of Life by Nancy Klann-Moren

Feature: 5 Star Reads (Including Burial Rites by Hannah Kent)

Read:

I read next to nothing in the beginning of the week. I fell down the rabbit hole of documentaries on Netflix. Want to know something about The Civil War, Prohibition, or The Dust Bowl perhaps? I’m your gal!

In times between hanging out with Ken Burns I did manage to read around half of November’s Fury by Michael Shumacher. I hope to finish that up this week!

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon gave my reading the extra push that it always does! Here are the books I ate up that day:

  • The Secret Life of Objects By Dawn Raffel
  • Number the Stars by Lois Lowry
  • Boxers by Gene Luen Yang
  • Saints by Gene Luen Yang
  • The Suicide Shop by Jean Teule
  • Late Lights by Kara Weiss
  • Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers

Upcoming:

I have a decent handle on my shelves so I allowed myself to request a few books from my local library. Here’s one that I’m particularly looking forward to:

Lookaway, Lookaway by Wilton Barnhardt

Other Business:

The 24 Hour Read-a-Thon was an absolute blast! You can see all the gif-tastic details here. I usually get my weekly wrap-up posts up on Sundays. Not this week! I was exhausted yesterday. The read-a-thon will do that to a person.

Have a great week everyone! And as always, happy reading.
