The Relentless Weekly Wrap-Up 10/09/2016

Ruminating:
Remember last year when I worked at a bookstore a day or two a week? I needed more hours so I searched elsewhere. I found a fantastic bank job with fantastic people and I adore it a fantastic amount. However, since I started I’m not doing much of anything else. It’s technically part-time but it doesn’t feel that way. It’s no coincidence that I stopped blogging consistently at the very same time I started my new gig.

I’m not sure what to do about it. I’ve joined the millions of people who are searching for balance. I’m not special, I’m not alone. I am tired. I am frustrated. I am missing the things I used to do and the people I used to spend time with.

Blogging:

Ha ha, nope.

Cooking:
Preparing decent meals with decent ingredients for my family is one of the things I miss most of all. We’re going to try something different this week, including Sunday meal prep for the upcoming week. We’ll see how it turns out! I did bake this past week. A coworker had a birthday so I whipped up some cupcakes.

Today I’m going to make some cauliflower “fried rice” using this recipe. A few of my friends have made it and raved about it. Healthy and tasty? Sign me up.

Reading:
I’m in the middle of A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I’ve been in the middle of it for some time. I’m beating a dead horse when I say that I don’t have the time I once did, right? It’s an absolutely delightful tale, now I only need to get back to it!

Watching:
It’s fall so all the goodies are back on the air, hooray! I’ve finally started Luke Cage. Oooh, that’s some good stuff. I thought Jessica Jones was fab and I’ve been waiting for this.

I also gobbled up season 3 of Transparent. That show is absolutely stellar.

It’s amazing how I make time for television but not for books. Hmm. That’s a topic I could explore but I’m not going to right now, ha ha.

Inking:
Last week I started the process of getting a new tattoo. The first session was awesome…and awesomely painful after a couple of hours. At the end of this month I’ll have this section finished and I’ll share pictures. It’s big, it’s bookish, and it’s incredible.

Celebrating:
Last weekend we buried my maternal grandmother’s ashes next to her husband’s. It was such a moving movement for all of us. We celebrated Grandma’s life with a lot of stories, laughs, and cocktails. It’s exactly what she would have wanted.

Concluding:
I’d like to wish you all a life as long, as fulfilling, and as worthy of celebration as my grandma’s. Go get after it folks, the days are passing.

I’d love to hear about your week. What have you been up to? Cooking anything good? Reading anything great? Watching anything amazing? Let me know!

  1. I terms of that elusive balance thing, I am right there with you. :-/ I keep telling myself \”when x happens, I'll be able to cut back on the hours I work.\” *Sigh*I know I said this before, but I am sorry about the loss of your grandmother. ❤ I love your concluding comment!

  2. I have a very physical job and often come home too tired to even think. I empathize with you. I still haven't found a balance, except I do get up earlier in the morning to spend time visiting blogs and returning comments on my posts. I usually try to set aside a couple of hours at night to do more, often while I watch the shows I'm dying to see. You can imagine I get distracted:) We can only do so much:)My Sunday Post

  3. The right job, and balance, are so important and definitely have an impact. And hard to find. Good luck and hope it works out! I just finished Luke Cage last night. Good stuff. Liked Misty Knight a lot, and when her and Colleen Wing get together next year in Iron Fist (assuming they do)- can't wait for that!

  4. The never-ending struggle with balance. I recently read Gentleman in Moscow during a totally chaotic time at home and definitely didn't have the mental space to really focus on it….I feel like it's the kind of book that begs to be read in solitude…not in small snippets with screaming kids in the background 🙂

  5. I'm glad y'all had such a wonderful service for your grandmother. Hugs!I'm really REALLY liking Luke Cage so far. I'm on episode six at this point, and I just think all these actors are incredible. I need you to know that Alfre Woodard is 63. Please bear this in mind the next time you are watching the show. I know it to be fact but I still can't believe it.

  6. My two grandmothers were as different as they could be but I found something to admire in both of them. Isn't it wonderful to have had a woman who inspired you to truly live your life? As to the balance issue, I've got nothing. And I wonder how in the world I did it when my kids were younger and active.

  7. Balance? There is balance? Hahaha!Actually, I think my balance is to forego cooking in lieu of reading time. Bad for my family, but it keeps me sane. Sane mothers > eating cereal every night of the week.
