Blogging: 
I’m not sure which direction I’m taking or where I’m going but I’m here and I’m typing and it feels pretty swell. I’m currently hosting a giveaway. (There are only a few hours left to enter, hurry!)
Cooking:
There hasn’t been a lot of cooking around here. (Thank heavens for my newest kitchen gadget.) You’ll note that my last blog post was in February. I also started a new job in February. Coincidence? NOPE. Cooking has taken a similar hit. I’m still working on finding a good balance between work and home. I bet I could find an essay or two about that very topic…
Reading:
Yet another thing that I’ve been struggling with! Are you sensing a theme here? My reading numbers are down and I’ve found that I have even less patience than before for books that aren’t dazzling me. That’s not a bad thing, but it does make writing about books a bit challenging.

Some recent winners have been American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin and The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. I’ve just started reading Brooklyn by Colm Toibin and I’m falling in love already.
As per usual I’m reading what I want, when I want. Reading on a whim is lit! (As the kids say. They do still say that, right???)
Nursing:
My youngest, Avery, had surgery to fix a large bone cyst inside her heel bone. OUCH. She’ll be in a cast for 6-8 weeks. The poor kid has been a champ. She’s starting to get antsy but we’re keeping her busy with school work, books, and activities. Hooray for the Feminist Activity Book!
Watching:
I’ve been re-watching Futurama myself and I’ve started watching Narcos with my hubby. Good stuff!
Celebrating:
Two anniversaries had me feeling excited this week: I’ve been married for 19 years and Star Trek has been around for 50 years. Don’t ask me which one was more important. Wink!

Welcome back! Glad to hear American Heiress is a winner. It sounds fascinating and I enjoyed Toobin's earlier book, The Nine. Brooklyn was wonderful on audio… glad it's good in print, too. Happy Anniversary 🙂

My job has interfered with reading/posting/living lately. As a teacher I go from total relaxation in the summer to full throttle working (seems like every waking hour). My poor blog. But you are on twitter all the time, so there's that! That's awful about your daughter's bone cyst. I had the same condition in almost the exact same spot when I was in high school. Not fun! And yes, the kids still say Lit! Provides this English teacher with so many puns!

Yay welcome back and happy anniversary! I've been off blogging for several months too, ever since just before my move to Singapore earlier this year. Just not a lot of time for reading and I didn't want to just complain about packing and the headache of moving on my blog. I'm back to reading a lot here in Singapore, but I dunno. Not feeling it (blogging again) yet. Anyway, glad to see new posts from you!

Hey, girlie! Happy anniversary! 1997 weddings FTW!! I'm glad Avery is hanging in there. The cast thing sucks but just imagine the lack of heel pain once the bone is completely healed!You will work out a balance eventually. It is not an easy thing. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something happens to shift the balance yet again. I think the key is staying flexible but not flexing on the truly important things, whether that is time with the family, family dinners, reading, etc. Keep those permanent and the rest is golden.
