I didn’t write a wrap-up last week because the 24 Hour Readathon left me feeling like a wet noodle. (For days! Am I getting too old for such shenanigans?)
Here’s what I’ve been up to…
Blogging:
I read a lot of fantastic books in April. You can see my monthly wrap-up here.
Cooking:
My recent successes have been a Bananas Foster French Toast Bake that I made on the morning of the Readathon and Baked Monterey Chicken with Roasted Veggies.
Reading:
I read a LOT of stuff on Readathon weekend. Since then I’ve taken it easy and have been savoring The Shore by Sara Taylor. I expect to finish it today.
Loving:
My youngest daughter Readathon’d with me. She participated in many of the challenges and stayed awake for the entire 24 hours. In other words? She kicked my butt. Way to go, kiddo.
Watching:
I consumed the first four seasons of Game of Thrones. CONSUMED. It’s as amazing as everyone says. Thanks to a BFF that made it possible…you know who you are. The only bummer? Now that I’m caught up I can only watch one episode per week, just like everyone else. Sigh.

Over-Sharing:
Yesterday was Independent Bookstore Day! I worked and shopped at my local indie. John Hildebrand was at our store yesterday and I bought a copy of The Heart of Things. He signed my book and we had a very nice chat. I’m looking forward to reading this book of Midwestern essays. I’ve heard good things and I adore books that have a Wisconsin flavor.
The entire family went to see the new Avengers movie last night. It wasn’t the most marvelous Marvel flick but it was a great way to spend a few hours. You could do worse things than watch that bunch of actors fling themselves around. (Helloooooo, Robert Downey Jr…)
Carter (16) and Avery (15) both started their very first jobs yesterday. I’m going to start asking them for cash every weekend. Ha.

The Relentless Reader 
I love the fact that you and your daughter did the blogathon together! I recently started re-watching Game of Thrones from the beginning while waiting to buy Season 4. I think I like the television series even better than the books. The series (so far) was a good read, but quite uneven.

Hot damn, the kids have jobs! I know we're quite a ways away from that with Greyson, but I can already imagine the excitement. You kicked ass on Readathon weekend….24 hours or not!

Congratulations to Carter and Avery on the new jobs!! I know they're excited for that first paycheck! 😉 I feel the same way about staying up during the readathon. It's been years since I've been able to stay up all 24 hours, so don't feel bad. 🙂

I've heard the same things about the Game of Thrones books. I decided to break all of my rules and watch the series instead of reading them 😉 I'm a rebel!

I'm cracking up over your comment about your kids starting their jobs; we are childless and my husband once made a comment to a friend about having children, something along the lines of \”well, if you've got them, you might as well put them to work!\” He was joking…I think. I hate it when I catch up on a show and then have to wait for weekly episodes; why do I hurry to get finished with it? At least when I'm reading like that there's always a new book around the corner; you'd think I would learn. That monterey chicken looks amazing; thanks for sharing the recipe!

Hooray for Indie Book day! I meant to go to my indie, but ended up shopping for wedding stuff with my sister instead. We only have a few weeks left before her big day! That chicken looks delicious. I'm off to nab that recipe!

Ha ha, it's a little true 😉 I had kids to fetch me things and run my errands. Now that my middle kid has his drivers license? Ohhh, it's wonderful! Run to the store, Carter, mom forgot eggs! (Etc.) I hope you try that chicken. It was YUMMY. I dirtied every dish in the house making it but hey, the kids do the dishes. Muahahahahaha!

1. I LOVE that your daughter Readathon'd with you. 2. I love that you took a photo to commemorate it. 3. I LOVE that she was reading The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy! I just finished today and it reminded my why I was a fangirl (so much giddiness and excitement!). How did your daughter like the book??
