Library Loot, yahoo! I haven’t linked up to this meme in a long time. For a while I was on a self-imposed library ban. I had review books coming out of my ears and I had to get them under control. Mission (sort of) accomplished. 

Now I’m back to my regular library visits and I couldn’t be happier about it! 

Here is what I scored this week:


The Confidant by Helene Gremillon

Paris, 1975. Camille sifts through letters of condolence after her mother’s death when a strange, handwritten missive stops her short. At first she believes she received it by mistake. But then, a new letter arrives each week from a mysterious stranger, Louis, who seems intent on recounting the story of his first love, Annie. 

They were separated in the years before World War II when Annie befriended a wealthy, barren couple and fell victim to a merciless plot just as German troops arrive in Paris. But also awaiting Camille’s discovery is the other side of the story, which will call into question Annie’s innocence and reveal the devastating consequences of jealousy and revenge. Cambridge student Serena Frome’s beauty and intelligence make her the ideal recruit for MI5. The year is 1972. The Cold War is far from over. England’s legendary intelligence agency is determined to manipulate the cultural conversation by funding writers whose politics align with those of the government. The operation is code named “Sweet Tooth.”
 
Serena, a compulsive reader of novels, is the perfect candidate to infiltrate the literary circle of a promising young writer named Tom Haley. At first, she loves his stories. Then she begins to love the man. How long can she conceal her undercover life? To answer that question, Serena must abandon the first rule of espionage: trust no one.


Yay right? I don’t know which one to read first!

  12. You're reading The Confidant?!? Yay! I loved it soooo much. Not the deepest of reads but still so good! One of my favorites of the year. I also really enjoyed Me Before You and think you will too! WHY haven't I heard of this Billy Lynn book? I just saw that Brenna at Literary Musings was reading it but had never even heard of it before. I'm shocked! Haha. I'll wait for your review. Great score!

  14. That's an awesome haul! I was on a library book ban too. Totally went out the window this week. Went there to pick up 1 book for the Around The World challenge…came out with 4…le sigh.

  20. It probably was me! I reviewed it a couple of weeks ago. I had seen it forever but couldn't get it at the library. I finally just bought it for my kindle. So great. Can't wait to see what you think!

  21. I've heard good words of Sweet Tooth and Me Before You. I read The Confidant a few months ago and it's really very good. A little predictable at times, but in a way that doesn't distract from the story, and the darkness is shocking but powerful. Hope you enjoy it 🙂
