The Classics Club Spin ~ #14!

The Classics Spin <~~Clicky click for more info
I made my Classics Club Spin List here

That means I’ll be reading Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos De Laclos before April 1st of this year.

Published just years before the French Revolution, Laclos’s great novel of moral and emotional depravity is a disturbing and ultimately damning portrayal of a decadent society. Aristocrats and ex-lovers Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont embark on a sophisticated game of seduction and manipulation to bring amusement to their jaded lives. While Merteuil challenges Valmont to seduce an innocent convent girl, he is also occupied with the conquest of a virtuous married woman. Eventually their human pawns respond, and the consequences prove to be more serious-and deadly-than the players could have ever predicted.
Are you taking part in the Classics Spin? What book is #14 for you?

  1. I've never heard of this one, but it sounds interesting … and I'm wondering if the movie Cruel Intentions is based on this book? Minus the setting, it sounds so similar! Good luck with it!

  2. Very interesting choice for you. I got \”Arrowsmith\” by Sinclair Lewis. Which will also be interesting because my knowledge of this book, aside from the fact that it won a Pulitzer, is zero.

  3. I've that on my list too (I think. If not it will be) and always wondered how close Cruel Intentions was to it. Possibly difficult for the language, but not bad as one to be picked randomly!

  4. I can't remember if it was you I answered to over the classics club post, but I know there's a readalong of it going on at the moment (check delaisse's blog for details). It's supposed to be a pretty easy and fun read. I hope you like it!
