Book Blogger Appreciation Week ~ Day 2

Day 2, Shining a Light on You!

I didn’t have a chance to sign up for the interview swap going on today during Book Blogger Appreciation Week so I’m taking part in the alternative activity and interviewing myself!

Before I answer the questions I have to say that BBAW is amazing. I spent all day yesterday and most of this morning exploring new (to me) blogs which in turn led me to even more blogs. This, like I said yesterday, is my first time to participate in this event. I want to give a giant thanks and a shout out to My Friend Amy for starting BBAW.

Also, I’d like to apologize for neglecting to visit all of my fellow bloggers yesterday for It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I normally make a big effort to visit each and comment on most of the participating bloggers. I hope to get to do just that later on today! And since this week is all about appreciating book bloggers I have to mention that I am so thankful to Sheila for hosting that meme, she is fab!

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Once in a while I do, lately I’ve been all over the 100 calorie packs of Snackwell’s yogurt covered pretzels.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of
writing in books horrify you?

No no no. I’ve never written in a book in my life. There is a library close by that asks you to initial the inside of a book if you’ve read it! Um, no.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
Laying the book flat open?

Bookmark only. If I see a book laying face down and flat open I get a sad.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

Both. Lots of both.

Hard copy or audiobooks?

I haven’t listened to an audiobook yet! I want to!

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you
able to put a book down at any point?

I like to read to the end of a chapter if possible but if I’m reading in snatches of times throughout the day it doesn’t bother me to stop wherever I am.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?

I have a few apps on my phone to look up words and/or other things from books that I want to learn more about. Word Nerd Alert!

What are you currently reading?

Gone With the Wind

What is the last book you bought?

Hmm, wow. I can’t remember! Probably something for one of my kids. I’ve stopped buying books for myself unless they are something I know I’ll want to re-read. Yay for the library!

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can
you read more than one at a time?

Gasp, I’m a one book at a time kind of woman!

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?

In bed, before I fall asleep for the night.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?

Usually stand alone books.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?

I will sing the praises of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth until everyone on this planet has read it. This means YOU!

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)

Organize books? What is this organization that you speak of? My system of books stacked all the hell over the place willy nilly isn’t organized?!?

Happy Book Blogger Appreciation Week!

  1. What a great idea! This way I can get to know you better. :-)I really need to check out the local library. I've driven by it, but that's it. Sad, I know. I really want to take my daughter one of these days. I just wish there was a story time on the weekend or on a Friday so we could go. I bet she'd love that. And I agree. Pillars of the Earth is a awesome read.I love your answer about organization. I try so hard but inevitably my books end up all over the place. 🙂 I blame my daughter but it's also my fault.

  2. This is so great! I wish I had gotten involved but I am woefully out of the loop! These days I do most of my reading on my nook so no need for dog earred pages and it has a built in tool to look up unknown words while reading which is pretty cool.If I was reading a paperback I would def turn down the corners and look up words only the context still didn't help me figure it out.I also love your answer about organization – my last Saturday Snapshot was of a couple of books hanging on our bathroom towel rack 😦

  3. Lol – your organization system sounds like mine! And I'm a huge library user too. If there is a book I really want to read and my library systemd oesn't have it, I'll buy it, read it and then donate it.

  4. Jillian!! How dare you!? LOL 😉 Honestly? I admire you! I'm so stinking anal about my books. My friends are scared to borrow books from me because I have so many rules. That's kinda awful! Then again…I don't have to lend out many books this way! And I'm kinda anal about that too, lol. Sigh.

  5. Once in a while I'll *try* to get a better system but it never works out for long 😉 Ah well! I love that you donate books that way! When my library doesn't have something I want I generally pout and whine about it until they do 😉

  6. What a great way to \”get to know you\”! I'm with you, one book at a time (although I can mix a fiction and non-fiction.), and I love to read before bed. But, I do \”interact\” with the text- I underline and fold down corners all the time. (My husband hates that). Now I keep a note card or two in each book I read to jot down ideas, etc. You are definitely keeping up with BBAW better than I am!

  7. LOL, your self-interview is a lot more fun than mine 😉 yogurt-covered pretzels, eh? Yum! How are you liking Gone with the Wind so far? I've just started Part 3 and I hope \”something\” will happen to spur Scarlett into growing up. I got so tired of her sometimes. NO. WILLFUL. IGNORANCE. FOR. WOMEN. IT. IS. INSULTING! Oh okay… I guess I will have to read Pillars of the Earth someday 😉 But only if you promise to try an audiobook!
